“what happens next?”
What do I do to get my unit or personal property back?
Has your property been repossessed?
You are probably asking...
“How do I get my unit back?”
“What happens to my personal property?”
"Why do I have to pay to get my unit or property back?”
Nobody wants their vehicle repossessed but it is something many people experience. While it can be devastating at the time, it’s a temporary situation that you can recover from. You can even get your car back in most situations.
EXODUS BAILIFFS TEAM ADVISES HOW TO GET YOUR VEHICLE AFTER IT HAS BEEN REPOSSESSED
The province of British Columbia requires repossession agencies to follow regulations and procedures which may be considered an inconvenience by persons who have had their units repossessed, however they are required, and at EBI we pride ourselves on providing the most effective service with utmost integrity.
Depending on the lender and the situation, you may be eligible to begin repaying the loan again. However not all lenders will agree to this as some will prefer to simply cut their losses.
If your lender agrees, you will have to pay the arrears you owe, plus any fees incurred throughout the repossession process. If you agree to this, it may be possible to amend your agreement and resume payments.
Fees will usually include towing and storage, any debt collector fees, legal fees, and any administration charge the lender may want to levy.
to redeem your vehicle:
1. The first thing you must do is CONTACT US “Exodus Bailiffs Inc.” – not your lending institution.
Exodus Bailiffs Inc. will explain everything you need to know regarding the process. By law you have up to 28 days to redeem your unit, after which your lender can sell it. To redeem your vehicle you will have to bring your account fully up-to-date within 24 hours. That is, if you want your unit right away. To be able to redeem, you must meet all requirements of your lending institution regarding the repossession.
Exodus Bailiffs Inc. has NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR LOAN! EBI is not able to answer any questions about your debt. We can only work with the outstanding amount owing, and with the information provided by your lending institution. Any other issue with your account is between you and the Lender.
Once you have agreed to bring your account to compliance and pay any other fees that your lender and Exodus Bailiffs Inc. has required, please keep in mind other documents may also be required. EBI will provide the amount owing in writing. Once EBI receives full payment and any other required documentation, Exodus Bailiffs can authorise the release of your unit. EBI cannot influence or expedite this process.
2. Once Exodus Bailiffs Inc. has issued the release form (from your financial institution), we will schedule an appointment to redeem your vehicle. Exodus Bailiffs Inc. operates “By Appointment Only”. NO EXCEPTIONS! We are CLOSED Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays.
Missed appointments are subject to a $100 fee before rescheduling a new appointment.
Cut-off time for submitting a release is 2pm. Our last release is 2:30pm daily. Appointments may be re-booked by phone before 11:30am.
If your release is not received by EBI before 2pm, your release will not happen on that day. Our last release is 2:30pm daily. You will not be scheduled for an appointment after 11:30am.
If your circumstances require a time outside our regular business hours, an after-hours option may be available, subject to availability. After hours or special gate fees may be arranged, and there is a $150 fee.
3. Applicable redemption, administrative, and daily storage fees must be paid prior to all vehicle releases. The redemption and administration fees will vary depending on the financial institution. Therefore the cost will be provided by phone when your appointment is booked. Daily storage fees can range from $20-$75 per day.
please note: cash only is accepted for redemption and storage fees, and must be paid in exact change.
What happens to my stuff? Why do I have to pay to get it back?
In accordance with British Columbia Law, all Personal Property MUST be inventoried by the agency. EBI has no choice in the matter, and we have up to 48 hours to process. The property must be removed from the unit, and an itemized list is recorded. Inventory is stored for no less than 21 days.
BC Laws allow repossession agencies to charge a reasonable fee for the handling and removal of personal property, in addition to a daily storage fee.
Exodus Bailiffs Inc. charges a minimum $75 fee for the removal and processing of personal property and a minimum $15 daily storage fee (per 3 bags or tub). Your personal effects are secured safely inside our locked facility. If you have more than 3 bags of personal property, or your property requires special handling, you may be charged a higher rate.
“Special handling” may include excessive quantities, soiled clothing, food products or waste, strong odours, to-go containers, dangerous or hazardous materials, etc. Bio-hazardous inventories may include hypodermic needles, human waste, rotting organics, insects, or any bi-products thereof. 2. Provide proof of insurance.
A storage facility (repossession agency) may not release the vehicle, until the registered owner provides proof of payment of the $15 fee to the Law Enforcement Agency. The repo company requires the original receipt. We will make a copy and return your original.
Upon repossession the agent must notify the local law enforcement authority of the repossession. The result of this process creates an entry in the system which indicates the collateral has been repossessed to remove a vehicle from this status, the registered owner must request this at the law enforcement agency where the report was taken. A $15 fee may be charged by that department.
